Another Day, Another Unearthed Socialism Speech from the One

October 28, 2008

Hotair has posted a talk from a spring 1996 meeting of the Chicago chapter of th Democratic Socialists of America, which today would be called mainstream libs. Enjoy:

Barack Obama observed that Martin Luther King’s March on Washington in the 1960s wasn’t simply about civil rights but demanded jobs as well. Now the issue is again coming to the front, but he wished the issue was on the Democratic agenda not just on [Pat] Buchanan’s.

One of the themes that has emerged in Barack Obama’s campaign is “what does it take to create productive communities”, not just consumptive communities. It is an issue that joins some of the best instincts of the conservatives with the better instincts of the left. He felt the state government has three constructive roles to play.

The first is “human capital development”. By this he meant public education, welfare reform, and a “workforce preparation strategy”. Public education requires equality in funding. It’s not that money is the only solution to public education’s problems but it’s a start toward a solution. The current proposals for welfare reform are intended to eliminate welfare but it’s also true that the status quo is not tenable. A true welfare system would provide for medical care, child care and job training. While Barack Obama did not use this term, it sounded very much like the “social wage” approach used by many social democratic labor parties. By “workforce preparation strategy”, Barack Obama simply meant a coordinated, purposeful program of job training instead of the ad hoc, fragmented approach used by the State of Illinois today.

The state government can also play a role in redistribution, the allocation of wages and jobs. As Barack Obama noted, when someone gets paid $10 million to eliminate 4,000 jobs, the voters in his district know this is an issue of power not economics. The government can use as tools labor law reform, public works and contracts.

Perhaps we will be invited to join the European Union despite our geographic handicap

I hate to say I told you so

Earlier I said that Obama would deflect any criticism of his socialist comments made in 2001 by saying this was a desperate attempt  by McCain in the last week of this election.  Well, I guess I was right…mostly right.  Obama has now announced that FOXNews, McCain, Barbara West, and Drudge are in concert to bring up accurate stories from Obama’s past “false accusations” in order to scare voters and further its conservative agenda.  I could never have seen that coming.  If Obama wants to see a desperate response he might want to look in the mirror.  If that isn’t irony, I don’t know what is.

A little too late, but thanks anyway.

John King, a CNN Correspondent, admited that the MSM has not done a proper job of handling Obama and Palin.  Although I agree with Mr. King, his rationale is poor.  The MSM has had almost 2 years to vet Obama on the issues and his past but it was too much in love with Hillary? Crap!  The MSM dropped the ball with both democratic candidates because they are huge stories; either the first black president or the first woman president.  That scenario alone allows any jounalist a great opportunity to win awards because of their coverage of such a historical event.  McCain/Palin does not offer the same opportunity.

If anything it is the opposite for Palin.  The MSM has such an obsession with seeing Palin fall right on her face.  She has been in the spotlight since August 17th…TWO MONTHS…yet I know more about her past then any of the other three.  I even know how much her wardrobe costs.  Yet Obama and Michelle’s pricetags are an unknown.  Addiitonally, I want to know how much Bidens hairplugs ran the Obama campaign.

Moreover, the MSM is only beginning to look into Obama’s socialist policies.  The wealth distribution was brought up a couple months back; giving a check to those not even paying taxes in an effort to redistribute wealth.  Yet, the MSM waited until 8 days before the election to even bring it up as a valid point.  Even then, I bet the MSM will flip this argument against McCain as a move of desperation.  What a joke the mainstream media has become.  It feels good to be free of that jinoistic institution.  The truth shall set you free.
